Kevin Ramey takes home the $2,000 1st place.
Fort Worth's own Kevin Ramey beat out George White to take the exciting ASCS feature at Cowtown Speedway Saturday night! There were a total of 30 sprints. Kolt Walker, number 45, had one of the more exciting rides in turn four. The Palm Harbor Homes special promotion was a success. The 50/50 drawing was $1,002 dollars. They even had a second 50/50 drawing for a lucky fan for $250. For more results go to: www.cowtownspeedway.com

Jeb Sessoms was the feature winner in the 600 Mini Sprints.
Bo Rawdon, the promoter of Cowtown Speedway, is amazing. I think every race track in north Texas was closed due to rain. But last Saturday there were over 165 race teams at the track. One of the reasons they were there was the Cowtown Challenge. If I understand this correctly, the track puts up a special purse along with extra money from sponsors, racers and fans. The race car that is on the pole position for the feature race can decide to run for the win or except the challenge. If you except the challenge you would start from the back. If you were to go on to win the race, not only would you win the first place money, but a good portion of the overall purse. Last week the 600 Mini Sprints were running for the Cowtown Challenge. First place paid $1,000 and if you won the challenge you would win over $2,500. Over 30 Mini Sprints competed for the 24 starting positions. Fort Worth's Kevin Ramey won the pole position, but the Cowtown crowd talked him into the challenge. It was an exciting race, but Kevin ended up in third place, behind Coby Estes and Jeb Sessoms. Fort Worth's own George White and family in the winner's circle.
George White led all 25 laps in the Entertainment Company sponsored Modified feature at Cowtown Speedway. Tim Looney, former local track announcer, and the Entertainment Co., kicked in an extra $1,000 to the $1,000 Cowtown Speedway Modified race for a total of $2,000. Jim Knight came in 4th and picked up an extra $400. Bo Rawdon, the promoter, did an outstanding job on the track after a brief rain shower. In a very close finish, Kevin Ramey (7) defeated Sam Hafertepe Jr. (15) by a wing at Cowtown Speedways ASCS races last Saturday night. Ramey, starting from the 15th position, slowly worked his way to the front. Hafertepe Jr. almost lost it on lap 8, but recovered and finished a close second. Matt Covington (95) was 3rd. This was the 33rd ASCS victory for Ramey. For the upcoming schedule and results go to: www.cowtownspeedway.com

Lining up for a race in 1951 at the old Devils Bowl in Dallas.
Eddie Neff grewup in southeast Dallas not too far from the old Devils Bowl that was located behind the Buckner Drive-in. On Friday nights he could hear the roar of the engines. He started going to the races and soon became a member of the pit crew for Frank Riley, a local driver. Eddie took pictures of the Dallas Speedway and the Devils Bowl in 1951. Two excellent examples of a skinny car by Waco's James Taylor.
Skinny Cars
I loved the old skinny cars. Of the day, they were the modern day's answer to the Super Coupes. While some of them were pretty rough, some went all out to make them look really sharp. As far as I'm concerned, they changed the entire direction of local racing. Read more comments and see more photos, click on : Photos/Racecars
